Julian Orchard is a true perennial Erysimum which will last for five or six years in the garden in the right conditions and with minimal attention. It has an upright habit with woody, branching stems, and will grow to 70cm tall and 40 cm across. The evergreen leaves are a wonderful pewter-green colour - probably the most silvery of any Erysimum in our collection. They are medium length (4cm) and smooth. Julian Orchard is one of the earliest flowering varieties of Erysimum, usually starting in mid-March. It also often has a second, autumn, flowering, which lasts right through until the severe frosts of winter. The flowers are a reddish-mauve colour, are relatively large for Erysimum flowers, and have a superb vanilla fragrance. This is one of our very favourite varieties, which we think deserves to be much more widely grown. |
